Gabriel covered his face with his book as he yawned. He hadn’t realized how exhausting doing nothing was.

After showering and changing, he and Brodie unpacked their belongings. They had hung around their room for a while, then headed down to lunch. Gabriel hadn’t wanted to admit it, but he had been on edge at the thought of crossing paths with Eric again at the restaurant. Though Eric seemed to be a decent person, Gabriel wasn’t sure he could stand to watch Brodie and him together. It was too early to say there was or could be anything between the two of them, but at breakfast, Eric had seemed friendly, attentive, and Gabriel was certain he had an interest in Brodie.

I know I said I’d support Brodie, but to see it, right in front of me...

To Gabriel’s relief Eric hadn’t been there, and so after an uneventful lunch of bread and cold cuts, he and Brodie had headed back to their room.

Gabriel peeped from behind his book. Brodie was sitting on the bed beside him. He had his eyes closed as he swayed his head. Sunlight fell across his face, accentuating his handsome features. He had his earphones in and was listening to something on his phone. Music, Gabriel figured from the tinny, muffled sound he could make out. Brodie’s expression was soft and relaxed, and his lips were plump and pouty as he mouthed the lyrics.

There was a knock at the door and Brodie opened his eyes. Gabriel quickly hid behind his book.

“Was that someone knocking?” Brodie said. When Gabriel lowered his book, Brodie pulled out one of his earphones. “Who is it?”

Gabriel pressed a finger to his temple. “If only I could see through doors.”

Brodie raised an eyebrow and folded his arms.

“Fine,” Gabriel said and closed his book. “Lazy.” He went to the door, surprised when he opened it to find Eric on the other side.

“Hi,” Eric said with a smile.

“Oh, hi.” Gabriel had the vague memory of Brodie mentioning their room number at breakfast. “Did you need something?”

“Yes. I was after Brodie.”

“Oh, sure.” Gabriel looked over his shoulder as he sensed Brodie behind him. “It’s for you.” He stepped aside, kneading his chest with his thumb.

I am not jealous.

“Hey,” Brodie said. “Did you need something?”

Eric rested his hand on the doorframe. “Are you free right now?”

Brodie glanced at Gabriel. “I guess, why?”

“I wondered if you’d like to take up my offer and go exploring with me?”

“Now?”

Eric nodded. “I would ask the guys I share with but they both seemed to have their own things going on, so I was hoping…” He leaned his head to one side. “Would you go with me?”

“Um.”

When Brodie couldn’t give a definite answer, Eric looked over at Gabriel. “You too, if you’d like?” From the tone of his voice, it seemed he was making a genuine offer.

No way.

“I’m fine, but you two should go.”

I have no right to say I don’t want him to go.

Brodie narrowed his eyes, seemed confused. “Are you sure?”

I’m not sure at all.
